The summer is simmering down while the autumn air is working it's way in and children nation wide are preparing themselves for one of the most important days of the year, the first day of school. After a long summers vacation, this could be quite a task for many children, so how does one, (The Parents) prepare themselves and their children for such a time as this? How do parents nation wide inspired their children to keep the positive mindset of "Going Back To School Is Cool?"
Luciana Hill a mother of four, speaks extensively about the strategy of suggestive reading and how important it is to have your child read, study and go beyond the grade level of suggestive reading in order to keep them in tune. Luciana feels that this is one of the most important lessons that she has learned in keeping her girls always in the mindset of "School is Cool." Luciana says "After your child has finished the suggestive reading for their grade level, challenge them by having them read suggested books for the next grade level." While studies find that the younger you start your child out reading, the more they want to read and bridge the gap between higher education and learning, it is up to the parent to keep their child on the right track and eventually the child feels that reading is an essential part of the child's life. Children who read more want to learn more and seem to advance to higher levels in life. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), which is a division of the United States Department of Education, when parent involvement is low, the classroom mean average (reading score) is below the national average. However, when parent involvement is high, classrooms score points are above the national average. This is why Luciana finds that it is most important to keep her four girls on the right track, so that they are well prepared for what is yet to come.
Jermyia, the youngest of the four will be starting school on the 9th of August, at Victor Herbert elementary school which is a Chicago public school. This will be her first time attending public school ever, as she has attended private school all of her life. Luciana has already prepared Jermyia for the changes that she may encounter, as Chicago public school's curriculum is quite different than private schools throughout the city. Jermyia, a 3rd grader seems ready and excited to go back to school. Jermyia says "I loves school and I am prepared and can't wait to meet my new friends and tell them about my ant farm that I have put together over the summer." Jemyia, loves to read, has 3 dogs and says that she will be a Veterinarian because she loves to take care of animals. All of these attributes play a major role in Luciana's suggestive reading strategy.
