The RN Implant Coordinator demonstrates clinical competence by appropriately evaluating the different types of implants used throughout the medical center to determine the appropriate use, storage, and management of implants IAW manufacturers' guidelines. The RN Implant Coordinator collaborates with the different provider services who use implants to determine the needs for the provider service and cross walking that with the corresponding VHA approved vendor list; collaborating with VHA contracting staff and the prosthetics department to ensure that all contracts are in-place for the procurement of implants in the medical center. The RN Implant Coordinator is responsible for developing and monitoring the process for the tracking of biological and non-biological implants and management of the implant recall process to ensure compliance with national standards, VHA directive(s), and regulatory requirements. The RN implant coordinator performs inventory audits to verify all areas are stocked with appropriate par levels to reduce the risk of expired or discarded implants. The RN implant coordinator runs various reports to include, but not limited to inventory audits and chart audits. The RN Implant Coordinator proficiently navigates the electronic health record (EHR); respond to different type of implant orders; enter appropriate consults; and complete chart audits to verify documentation of the implant and its unique identifier are in the patient's EHR. The RN Implant Coordinator provides training and education for front-line staff that use implants; train staff to document in the implant tracking system; ensure staff complete annual competencies; provide staff assistance with documentation in the EHR; and educate providers with established procedures when ordering implants. In the event of equipment or wireless temperature system failure, the RN Implant Coordinator follows CTVHCS policy and procedures to initiate contingency plans. The RN Implant Coordinator position may require occasional travel away from the duty station to other sites as appropriate for patient care or training needs.

Central Texas Health Care System (CTVHCS) is a Complexity Level 1A system located in Temple, Texas. Centrally located between Austin and Dallas, it is one of the VA's largest integrated health care systems with over 4,000 employees serving 39 counties in Central Texas.
We consists of two hospitals located in Temple and Waco, each with a Community Living Center. Waco includes a Blind Rehabilitation Unit, a rehabilitation unit for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and a Serious Mental Illness Life Empowerment (SMILE). Temple has one domiciliary and an outpatient clinic annex. Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) are located in Brownwood, Cedar Park, College Station, Palestine and Austin.
