Job Description

ASU – the largest state university and also recognized for the last 6 years in a row by US News and World Report as the most innovative university – is seeking an energized, entrepreneurial Product Manager to lead the development of degree pathway and other student success-related products such as ASU’s uAchieve (DARS – Degree Audit Reporting System) and eAdvisor Critical Tracking products.

Our ideal product manager will be an active and eager partner within the UTO Student Success portfolio and champion our mission to support ASU Learners (and those that support them) throughout their knowledge seeking journey and provide thoughtful decision-making tools to foster success post ASU-affiliation. The roles and responsibilities will focus on facilitating the improvement of the administrative platforms that support student-facing processes and web applications to ensure students are able to complete degree planning and graduation preparation efficiently and accurately. We are looking for the individual who fosters meaningful relationships with our business partners across the university, has a strong desire to make improvements both small and large to deliver business value, patiently listens to end users, is curious enough to ask many questions, drives the product team forward and celebrates successes, and advocates for learning through experimentation to create feasible solutions.

Product Managers in the ASU University Technology Office:
* Lead the creation and improvement of well-designed product solutions that provide value to students, faculty, and staff.
* Collaborate and communicate with stakeholders and cross-functional product teams to solve problems and achieve objectives that result in changes to product capabilities.
* Distill and communicate customer and stakeholder needs, sets priority, and measures impact.
* Define, communicate, and manage product vision, strategy, and roadmap.

Full-Time/Part-Time: Full-Time

Salary Range: $76,153 - $87,550 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

* Fosters and maintains relationships across ASU business areas including but not limited to: Provost Curricular Activities and Actions, Provost Academic Transfer Credit Solutions, Admissions, and Registrar through meetings, presentations, * * * Slack, email, or other communication methods.
* Manages external relationships by staying aware of vendor roadmap, scheduled upgrades/releases/decommissioned functionalities, and potential new features that may benefit ASU degree planning efforts.
* Synthesizes knowledge and shares with the product team, business partners, and portfolio team to ensure awareness.
* Independently and collaboratively analyzes incoming requests and feedback against the current state of processes, systems, and applications. Constantly reevaluates how to evolve towards improved student degree planning. Maintains transparency of efforts through backlog creation and prioritization and/or roadmapping.
* In collaboration with product team members and UTO engineering, proposes technical solutions that align with overall technical efforts. Becomes comfortable with estimating development time frames (pebble, rock, boulder) based on experience with the team and previous development efforts.
* Collaborates with our User Experience (UX) Research team to identify opportunities for improvement using quantitative and qualitative insights. Looks for methods of collecting metrics and measuring outcomes where none exist.
* Removes obstacles to the product team’s success by negotiating timelines and resource allocations with other product managers or stakeholders, providing mentoring and coaching as needed, and escalating constraints to a Portfolio
* Manager when necessary to move forward.
* Encourages and models cross-product collaboration to ensure alignment and share ideas. Strengthens the team by locating and onboarding needed engineering, design, research, or data resources.
* Works closely with University Technology Office’s User Interface and User Experience (UI/UX) Design team to ensure consistency and compliance with ASU web standards. Ensures usability and accessibility of applications is evolving and improving.
* Partners with Portfolio Management and other Product Managers to align individual product priorities with portfolio quarterly objectives. Participates in monthly sessions to refine product goals towards organization goals and mission.
* Facilitates meetings and discussions.
* Take responsibility for fostering culture, advancing our values, and championing engagement in all its forms -- collaborating across our teams as well as participating in UTO/ASU events and programs. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related field and two (2) years experience in product management; OR five (5) years experience in product management; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

* Experience within Higher education and degree planning/degree audit systems.
* Familiarity with software development lifecycle and methodologies.

* Skill in analyzing complex problems and utilizing critical thinking to solve issues and make decisions.
* Ability to express empathy and tactfulness.
* Experience with interviewing and listening.
* Experience with negotiation.

* Experience in stimulating changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.
* Experience in leading by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution’s sustainability programs.
* Functional or technical knowledge of DARS/uAchieve.
* Functional or technical knowledge of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, preferably Admissions and/or Student Records modules.
* Product Management experience or knowledge of general practices.
* Experience with Atlassian tools: JIRA/Confluence or any similar prioritization and planning tool.

Working Environment

* Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
* Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
* Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
* Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
