About the Position

VHB has an immediate need for a Geomatics Manager to join our Raleigh, North Carolina office and build our Land Surveying practice in North Carolina.  The Geomatics Engineering Manager is responsible for the overall program management of the geomatics engineering group within a region or VHB office. Typical staff size associated with this position is less than 10 geomatics engineers. Responsible for deploying and scaling the workforce they are responsible for to execute large projects requiring multi-tiered management.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Management:

  • Growth and professional development of geomatics engineering staff
  • Growing the service line
  • Employing data-driven technologies
  • Project management (scope, schedule, and budget)
  • Financial performance of the survey engineering group
  • Embrace, promote, and establish QA/QC and survey workflow processes that ensure the highest quality survey product for our clients

Growing the Service Line:

  • Develop and support service line strategies and initiatives in support of and response to VHB’s Strategic Plan and regional business planning/strategic pursuits
  • Align service offerings to VHB’s market requirements
  • Collaborate with Market leaders to identify new services or skills and develop an approach to providing the new services and skills
  • Develop growth plans including identification of market opportunities and strategies such as key hires development of external business opportunities while meeting the expectations of internal clients
  • Monitoring and maintaining the financial performance of the survey engineering group

Professional Development:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships and trust with other Discipline Directors
  • Develop a recruiting and professional development strategy to attract and retain talent
  • Promote work sharing across offices and advise on the deployment of staff resources on major projects and pursuits
  • Participate in key hire candidate identification, recruitment, and on-boarding

Employ Data-Driven Technologies:

  • Advance VHB’s Technology Vision of being data-informed and technology-enabled: communicate and engage with the survey engineering team to promote the awareness of available technologies
  • Identify and deploy leading edge work processes, technologies, and applications to execute projects more effectively
  • Develop client solutions benefitting from advancements and applications of data and technologies

QA/QC Practices:

  • Work with leadership groups to develop and implement consistent work processes and standards
  • Work with discipline groups to develop and implement quality plans
  • Review client and quality audit feedback and develop action plans to implement best practices across the region

Project Management:

  • Create project plans, identify and organize resources, and successfully execute projects to completion
  • Develop, monitor and maintain project budgets, scopes, and schedules

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Associates degree in Survey Engineering, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of professional survey experience involving direct responsible charge of survey engineering projects, including 5+ years of client / staff / project management development
  • Professional Land Surveyor license preferred
