Commodity Manager
The Commodity Manager is responsible for handling the company's end to end sourcing operations, and for meeting Global Sourcing savings targets as well as serving as an escalation path for delivery, quality, and supplier management issues. The ability to manage multiple complex projects and to develop the supply base to meet corporate and business unit objectives is critical. You must have the ability to evaluate and select new suppliers along with Engineering, Quality and Regulatory to select strategic partners worldwide. Must have strong understanding of global trade, the need for constant change and identification of emerging technologies. This position is based in the Molecular Devices San Jose facility, supporting San Jose facility Operations, R&D and commercial teams and provide support to Shanghai facility if needed. Domestic travel 10% to 20%, international travel possible (US). Key Responsibilities: - Manage the company's supply portfolio ensuring transparency of spending; Generate and implement efficient sourcing and category management strategies.
- Manage multiple supplier relationships: New parts; supplier changes; yearly negotiations; pricing and payment terms.
- Ownership of positive relationship between Molecular Devices and suppliers leading to best cost, quality, delivery, and service
- Optimize sourcing procedures to attain maximum efficiency
- Understanding & ownership of Supplier Selection Processes.
- Owns the direct and indirect material spend and is responsible to secure savings in line with annual objectives.
- Works closely with Product Development on new projects to deliver new supplier relationships, technologies, or co-development solutions.
- Supports operations procurement teams to deploy global sourcing strategy and help resolve parts supply or quality issues.
- Work closely with other relative departments such as Finance, service, sales etc. to improve expense efficiency by optimizing process and supplier base.
Qualifications: - Bachelors degree or above in Supply Chain, Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of proven work experience within supply chain, commodity management, or vendor management
- Experience working in lean manufacturing environments
- Awareness of lean tools desirable, examples: 5S, Standard Work, KANBAN, Policy Deployment, Value Stream Management, Visual Management.
- Strong background in interacting with common engineering practices (i.e. root cause analysis)
- Experience in ERP and PLM systems, Oracle and 3DS is preferred.
- Commercial skills and contracts composition experience.
- Good negotiator and decision maker; strong analytical skills, use of data to drive decisions.
- Strong project management and leadership skill
- International business and multi-cultural experience.
- Understanding of market dynamics and sound business judgment
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
