Senior Equipment Engineer

Ethicon, a member of Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Senior Equipment Engineer located in San Angelo, TX

The Ethicon business offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies-including sutures, topical skin adhesives, hemostasis products, surgical staplers, trocars, energy devices and synthetic mesh devices-used in a wide variety of open and minimally invasive surgical procedures. Specialties include orthopedics, support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, women's health conditions, hernias, cancer and obesity. The Ethicon business combines products and services of two market leading legacy companies, both with long histories of medical innovation. Ethicon, Inc. based in Somerville, New Jersey, was founded more than 80 years ago as a pioneer in suture development and manufacturing, helping to transform the safety and effectiveness of surgery. Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc., based in Cincinnati, Ohio, was founded 20 years ago to develop innovative devices that have driven the groundbreaking shift from open to minimally invasive surgery that continues to lead the industry today.

The Senior Equipment Engineer will apply comprehensive and diverse knowledge of engineering principles and practices within broad assignment areas and coordinate and direct activities of technical support staff (salary and wage) and will be responsible for technical development of assigned staff. Responsible for Providing Subject Matter Expertise and Platform Ownership on multiple equipment types and technologies, including equipment reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, conduct and direct engineering projects or studies, including complete projects requiring advanced knowledge of a specialized field.

  • Apply comprehensive and diverse knowledge of engineering principles and practices within broad assignment areas.

  • Coordinate and direct activities of technical support staff (salary and wage) and will be responsible for technical development of assigned staff.

  • Track and trend data, identify and implement process improvements to improve business measures.

  • Investigate product inquiries, develop and implement appropriate corrective actions.

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise and Platform Ownership on multiple equipment types and technologies, including equipment reliability.

  • Comply with all applicable quality management system, environmental, safety and occupational health policies. (for example, ISO 13485, ISO14001 & OSHAS18001). This includes, but is not limited to, validation documents, NCR/CAPA/Internal audit investigations, Validation Master Plan (VMP) activities and any other applicable quality system task.

  • Performs other duties assigned by supervisor/manager as needed.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; B.S in engineering or a related technical discipline

  • A Master's degree or PhD in Engineering preferred.

  • Lean or Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) Certification preferred

 

Required:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment 

  • Experience with technical documentation writing

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Must have strong analytical problem-solving skills and professional judgment required to resolve major technical issues.

  • The ability to collaborate with all levels of management and influence decision-making in a cross-functional team environment

Preferred:

  • Experience on packaging processes and equipment

  • Medical Device, Consumer or Pharmaceutical industry experience

  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) (i.e. programming, writing code, etc.)

  • Experience with vision systems, Robotics and automation

  • Experience with Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM)

  • Experience with high-speed automation assembly equipment

  • Knowledge of FDA, ISO and/or GMP regulatory requirements

  • Knowledge of BSI (European) regulatory requirement

  • Project management experience

  • Must be capable of making effective management level presentations, writing formal reports dealing with both technical and business implications, and preparing project plans.

Other:

  • This position will require up to 10% travel.
