According to the book "Black History for Buddhists, Christians & Muslims" by John L. Ellis, Buddha was an Egyptian priest who was chased from Memphis by the persecutions of Corribyses. This is strong evidence for positing an African origin for Buddhist thought. Buddhist concepts such as karma, reincarnation and ancestor reverence all were in existence in Africa thousands of years before the historical Buddha was born. The same can be said for Christianity and Islam to the extent that their religious ideas were borrowed from ancient African principles, The belief in one supreme god was also in existence in Africa long before the birth of Jesus or Muhammad.

I think as a black woman if anything the information has just reinforced (for me) that the signature of African people is everywhere and is hiding in plain site if that makes any sense. I never paid any attention to the African feautures of Buddha before, but I was always wondering why his belly was so big.
I know that sounds crazy, but its the truth. But my goodness, it just makes so much sense to me now and it looks as if all this history is coming together for me.
I feel so good knowing that our history didn't start as Sister Irma stated --- it didn't start in the '60s nor did it start in the U.S. For that I am so greatful as well as thankful.
I've been armed with the proper ammunition to teach my son who he is and what kind of great people he's come from. Thank you again for sharing this information.

Im trying.... Calming and Balance are characteristics... I posses... Buddahism to me seems more philosophical.... than theological and I'm trying to learn the concept... I am very much interested... How is it different from my christian beliefs?...I guess that's the question I wanna ask.... I hope I am not out of line.... My dad believes in the spirit world.... Which is different from my religious up bringing.... and I don't practice .... I just observe

Hopefully this is not off topic on a blog on the Buddha...andy way..in N.D.B...
1. you are allowed to ask questions about your faith
2. You are allowed to think critically / from all points of views
3. being different is not being deficient
4. you are allow full control over your physical and mental body
5. you can have your own identity and rate your own self worth and how much/ less that you love, respect your self and otheres on your terms...as only a few..
6. can allow every day comon sense and your own life experiences to control your life and not fear of going to hell if you be the best person you can be...
now tell me any of these you are allow to do right now Cynthia from the thelogocial point of view?????/ no not from your Cynthia's point of view as this woud be Buddhism, phiolsopy. psychology, sociaolog and freedom of choice, ect. ALL ROLLED INTO O-N-E AND A TICKET ONE WAY TO H-E-L-L(smile)
